Chat With Immediate Past President: Tooyosi Olaoye

Omolola: Hi Tooyosi, nice to have you in here🤗. Congratulations on the completion of your tenure as SFC President. How are you feeling about this?

Tooyosi: Hello Omolola,. Thank you for your kind words! It was an incredible experience serving as President of the Student Finance Club. I feel immensely grateful for the opportunity to lead and work with the best team of individuals. It was certainly a key highlight for me. It’s been a rewarding journey, and I’m excited to see how the club continues to grow and thrive in the future!

Omolola: That’s great. I would love to hear more about your experience as the president. What were the exciting moments? What challenges did you face?

Tooyosi: Certainly! The exciting parts for were our general activities, you know the case studies, competitions, market update and the likes. I’ve always loved these as a member of the club and get to now be the in backend and see to the actualization of these together with the executives was really exciting for me.

Wheew, for challenges, majority of this boiled down to the external bureaucracy that comes to play in actualizing our plans. We wrote so many letters, emails and the calls? It was a lot! Then maintaining membership experience, fundraising and personally for me balancing the responsibilities of being President with other engagements. Big shout out to my executives and the whole SFC family!

Omolola: Awesome. I can imagine how UI can be with letters😅😅.

Tooyosi: UI and the general world 😂.

Omolola: I know you were the Human Resources Manger before you became the President, how did your HR experience help you navigate your role?

Tooyosi: Yes I was 💯. As HRM you get to be the  members ally on the executive team. The experience I had from previously being the HRM was pivotal. It held weight especially when it came to understanding and managing members experience in the club and factoring their point of view when making important decisions.

As well as sharing my knowledge and loopholes I observed in my tenure with my successor for a continued better HR experience.

Omolola: That’s great. I can attest to the fact that your successor’s tenure had a great HR experience 🫢😅.

Tooyosi: Since it’s from the horse’s month I believe you 😂

Omolola: If you had the option of going back in time, what would you do differently?

Tooyosi: That would be focus on fostering stronger relationships with our alumni community and intensify our outreach efforts to strategic organizations. This approach would have provided the club with valuable insights, mentorship opportunities, and potential partnerships. It could have also secured additional resources for our activities and opened doors to more internships and job opportunities for our members, enhancing the overall experience and impact of the club.

Omolola: I’m sure your successor can pick a thing or two from this.

Tooyosi: I mean we did an impressive amount of company visits and partnerships but there was room for more.

Omolola: Yeah, I agree. Now, to my favorite part of this interview.

Tooyosi: Let’s go!

Omolola: Netflix or cinema?

Tooyosi: Planned out Netflix

Omolola: Are you a night owl or an early bird?

Tooyosi: Night owl

Omolola: What’s that one thing you can do without in one week?

Tooyosi: Social Media and let me add soda, I recently started my no-soda journey😅

Omolola: Your favorite album of all time?

Tooyosi: Last Day of Summer by Summer Walker. Absolutely no skips

Omolola: Guys, stream away😅😂

What’s the favorite thing about yourself? Maybe something people do not really know?

Tooyosi: Hmm….Isn’t this a question for my friends to answer?  But yes, I’m a big culinary enthusiast. Trying out “serenren” recipes is like therapy to me. I’m also exploring drinks now and will be taking a mixology class later the year.

Omolola: Wow. Nice! You must invite me for cocktail o😂

Tooyosi: Anytime b!

Omolola: Last question, I would ask you to shoutout in a different way. If you all members of SFC were in a sinking ship and you could only save 5 people, who and who would you save?

Tooyosi: Why will you put me this stuff position?

Omolola: 😂😂😂 It’s part of life

Tooyosi: I love every single member please. Worst case scenario econometrics will come to play here and we will go with random selection

Omolola: 👏🏾 That was sleek😅

Tooyosi: Genuinely, a big shout out and appreciation to my executives; Victory Igweh, Orire Agbaje, Omolola Babatola, Beauty Ewere, Folajimi Ifeoluwa, Lateefat Abdganiyu, Boluwatife Omolade, Kadejo Deborah, Blessing Okoroafor & Mary Ogunyemi. It was a beautiful experience. Warm hugs to all members of the club, big thank you to the alumni community. Finally kudos and best wishes to the new administration. I’m in awe of the works been done already. May your reign be long and impactful.

Wonderful Omolola, thank you, I enjoyed this conversation.
